Sasak is the indigenous ethnic group of Lombok it is among around 300 other distinct ethnic groups that exist in Indonesia, they are related to Bali in language and race although the Sasaknese predominantly Muslim while the Balinese are Hindu. Most of Sasaknese today adhere waktu Lima version of Islam, five times daily prayers which the mainstream Muslim required to do. It distinguishes them from Sasaknese who practice waktu telu or three times daily prayers. These non-orthodox Islamic adherents can be still found mostly in the village of Bayan where the religion originated. A small minority of Sasaknese called the Bodha are mainly found in the lenek hamlet village of Bentek subdistrict of Gangga North lombok. They are totally untouched by Islamic and other influence and worship animistic Gods. Until Later on they have come under the influence of mainstream Buddhism from Buddhist missionaries, and have been now the center of local sasaknese Buddhist community on Lombok Island.
